Longtime Roanoke resident, Morton C. Rosenberg, 93, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2017 at Brandon Oaks Nursing home from complications due to Parkinson’s Syndrome. He spent almost his entire life in Roanoke except for two years at Virginia Tech, three and one-half years in the Merchant Marines during the Second World War and then another two years at the University of Virginia finishing his education.He is predeceased by his parents, Harry and Helen Rosenberg of blessed memory, and his dear sister, Fran Goldberg and is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Carol, and his beloved children, Cathy Oyster (Lon), his son, Don Rosenberg (Dena), two cherished grandchildren, Jeffrey Rosenberg and David Rosenberg, and his beloved sister, Elaine Rosenberg.As a teenager, Morton attained the rank of Eagle Scout and later became Scout Master of Troop 4 in Roanoke. When he enlisted in the Merchant Marines in 1943, he traveled from Baltimore to the Mediterranean on seven different Liberty ships as a ra

Jamie Dotson, 48, entered into eternity Saturday, June 3, 2017 from the Carilion Memorial Hospital-Roanoke, Va. His loving family was at his bedside.Jamie was a Christian of the Baptist faith. He was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. He was a natural athlete, and was very good at any sport he participated in, especially football and baseball, which he played for Pound High School and Limestone College in Spartanburg, S.C. Later he enjoyed coaching his sons and others kids in the area. He coached little league and junior league baseball and peanut football. He loved everybody’s  kids like he did his own.He was extremely proud of his sons. Jamie enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and spending time at the lake with his family and friends.Jamie was a former heavy equipment operator and  was also a former owner of Saba Market in Pound. Jamie had a very outgoing personality and was quick to make friends. Frances Crotts Brooks, 90, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 3, 2017. Her husband Windell Timothy Brooks; parents, Amos and Erma Crotts; along with three brothers, preceded her. Our mom and dad are reunited with Jesus.Mrs. Brooks was a member of Mason Cove Chapel, where she taught Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School. Later in life, she attended Christian Life International. VICKROY Keith Allen March 3, 2017 Keith Allen Vickroy, 73, of Roanoke, went home to join his wife in heaven on Friday, March 3, 2017.  In addition to his wife Mary, he was preceded by his parents, Ruth and Merrill Vickroy; siblings, Gary,  Susan, Ann, Rebecca, Merrill David, Mary Beth; and a niece Robbie Vickroy. Mr. Vickroy retired after honorably serving his country for 30 years in the United States Navy. Following his retirement he enjoyed working in his greenhouses until his health declined.  Surviving are his daughter, Kimberly Vickroy; three grandsons; stepchildren, Robert Eberhard, Richard Eberhard and wife Geraldine, Margaret Semas and husband Joe, David Eberhard and wife Kelly, Ruth Tremaine and husband Ted, Fred Eberhard and wife Pam, Victoria Dube; brothers, James Vickroy and wife Sandy, Tom Vickroy and Rhonda; sister, Janet Martin and husband Barry; sister-in-law, Carol Vickroy; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Funeral Services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. Kim and Oscar Smith, Sharon and Lee Linkous, Jack Clifton and many others. Shari graduated from Montgomery High School in Montgomery, WV in 1968. She worked as a Treasurer’s Clerk for Roanoke County for many years as well as in the ticket office of the Salem Civic Center. Some of Shari’s favorite pastimes were quilting, spending time at Smith Mountain Lake, eating her Moose Track ice cream, and going to Mac And Bob’s every chance she could. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m until 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Sherwood Memorial Park’s Abbey. A graveside service to immediately follow.
