Libby Dye Hawkins.See Page 4A for Hawkins' full obituary. Here are some notable quotes about Hawkins from his friends and peers:Cleveland County Commissioner Eddie Holbrook: "When I came on (the board) 10 years ago, I didn't know Ronnie Hawkins. The relationship evolved to being very close friends. If it was a good thing for the county, he was supportive. He flew to Indianapolis to show his support for the presentation of the (American Legion World Series) bid. On top of that, he was a very true friend. I would spend hours with him at the (Harris) funeral home in Kings Mountain. I was a new kid on the block, as far as commissioners, so he helped me form a lot of the foundations I have today."Cleveland County Commissioner Jason Falls: "He had the biggest heart of any man I've ever met. He did so much for people behind the scenes that most people will never know about. He always brought out the best in others and gave us his very best. What I saw in Ronnie, he put others first, and even when he was dealing with a tough physical situation in his life, he still thought of other people first. He cared about how you were doing at the time."Kings Mountain Mayor Scott Neisler: “Ronnie Hawkins has always been a fellow who never tooted his own horn. He always sent multiple nominations for the Longleaf Pine Awards … That’s the sort of guy he was. He was always thinking about other people and what they did for the community, rather than himself.”Bradley Ellis of Harris Funeral Home: “We worked together for about 25 years (at Harris Funeral Home). He was an excellent funeral director. The families came first and foremost in everything that he did. He cared deeply about the Kings Mountain community, as well as Cleveland County … He was like a father to me. He was a wonderful mentor, teacher and friend.”Cleveland County Commissioner Johnny Hutchins: “Ronnie was probably the most giving person I’d ever met. I’ve known Ronnie since we were young teenagers growing up … So many people have different stories of what Ronnie has done for them.”Cleveland County Commissioner Susan Allen: "Ronnie was an extraordinary person who loved all and cared for everyone.
