Star Military Farmers.A jelly-making class will begin at 8:30 May 19 at the center, followed by a container garden class. Classes will be taught by Agri-Life Extension agents Jennifer Pearman and Kim Benton.Julianne Sanford, LSMRG coordinator, will present a program to the Master Gardeners Association June 12.A canning class will be held at 8:30 June 23, and a seed saver class will be held July 28, also at the center. On Aug. 17, a fall gardening class will be held.The farmers’ market is again open outside Sadler’s Restaurant on Thursdays. Local gardeners/growers may bring their items for sale.

Logan T. Cross, 15, of Benton, Tennessee, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2017 in a Chattanooga hospital.  He was a student at Polk County High School. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sheena Nichole Stone.Survivors include his father, Michael Cross, Jr.; maternal grandfather, Bobby Stone and wife, Tina; maternal grandmother, Regina Townsend and husband, Ron; paternal grandfather, Michael Cross, Sr.; and paternal great grandparents, Sam and Janice Cross.The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 30, in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home.  The interment will follow in Old Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.  A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.His family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 29.Higgins Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

Almond and his wife, Sue of Lavaca; her sister, Janell Swearingen of Greenwood; a niece, Bryn Butler of Bentonville; seven grandchildren, Amber Haskins, April McClure, Ashley Reed, Alan Copeland, Blake Almond, London Merrill and Julianne Almond; as well as 10 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and four siblings.She was a loving wife and mother who dedicated her life to raising her family in the Christian faith and in the church. She absolutely loved and adored her seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren and she continued to share the Lord's love with them all. The names Grandmother and Gigi were precious to her.She was a devoted servant of Christ and Cavanaugh Free Will Baptist Church. She did everything from using her creativity to arrange flowers, decorate cakes, design and make worship banners to loading up her car with luggage and kids to take to church camp.Her faithfulness to Jesus and her unselfish help to others has provided a beautiful legacy that both her family and friends should desire to follow! She will be missed and always cherished.Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Cavanaugh Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. David Copeland and the Rev. Will Harmon officiating.
