He had spent many years building boat docks and later worked as a carpenter. God had blessed him with a special talent thru his carpentry.In his spare time, he enjoyed getting out and riding his motorcycle and his horses. He loved hunting, fishing and playing pool. The time he treasured the most though, was time spent with his family and friends.Butch has blessed his family with many fond memories. Bradley massman, Tribune Staff Writer Published 7:00 am, Friday, June 9, 2017 PIGEON — A piece of history is staying alive in downtown Pigeon.James Childs, owner of Champagne Funeral Chapel in Caseville, has been in the funeral business for 21 years, and by the start of next year, he will manage three funeral homes combined into one.Currently, there is a building from the 1930s in downtown Pigeon, located at 7356 W. Michigan Ave., which has witnessed many different uses. To locals, it will always been known as The Dutch Kettle, a once popular restaurant, or “the bowling alley.”“In the 1960s, the building became Pigeon Lanes Bowling Alley and a restaurant,” Childs said. “The restaurant has changed names, but from 1976 and on, it was called the Dutch Kettle.”For a number of years, the building has sat vacant, collecting dust and beginning to deteriorate.
