SUSPECT CAUGHT – Clayton Harwell, 32, of Greenwood was arrested at a residence north of Greenwood Saturday night by Wise County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Department of Public Safety troopers, according to Sheriff Lane Akin. Officers had been searching for Harwell since he fled from a traffic stop last Tuesday in Montague County. According to Wise County Jail records, Harwell was arrested on a contempt of court charge. LEANS -- A funeral home worker made a gruesome discovery Friday morning when a man's body was found near the grounds of a Mid-City cemetery.Police said around 7 a.m., an officer was flagged down by a Greenwood funeral home worker near City Park Avenue and Canal Boulevard.The worker told police they thought a man was asleep on the grass in the cemetery. When police went to investigate, they said the man appeared to be shot at least once. Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene, but the man was pronounced dead.Officials said the parish coroner will determine the exact wounds and how the man died.Police added they do not know at this time if the man was shot in the cemetery, or if his body was dumped there. Joe Paul Henderson. Jimmy was a 1979 graduate of Pepperell High School in Lindale. He was employed for a number of years with West Point Pepperell Manufacturing Co. and Greenwood Mills, until the mill in Lindale closed. Prior to his becoming ill, he was employed as Maintenance Manager with Gildan Yarns in Cedar­town. He loved playing his guitar with the choir in several churches that he attended, following his family’s love for music ministry. Jimmy was a member of Silver Creek Baptist Church.Survivors include his wife, the former Barbara Tillery, to whom he was married on May 25, 1995; a step-son, Scotty Deems, and his wife, Tabitha, Aragon; twin grandsons, Brandon and Landon Deems, both of Aragon; his mother, Rosalyn Hopkins Henderson, Rome; a sister, Sherri Hopkins Gibbs, and her husband, Tom, Ft. Payne, Ala.; a brother, Mike Hopkins, Ft. Payne, Ala.; two step-brothers, Joe P. Henderson II, and his wife, Jessica, Franklin, N.C., and Barry R. NEW ORLEANS —A funeral home employee discovered a man's body Friday morning near a New Orleans cemetery, police said.AdvertisementNew Orleans police said the body was reported around 7 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery and Mausoleum near City Park Avenue and Canal Boulevard.WDSU reporter Kelsey Davis said a woman was conducting routine ground checks near the cemetery when she noticed a man lying in the grass. She told police that she thought he was sleeping and she went to check on him.Police said the man was pronounced dead at the scene with gunshot wounds. The coroner's office classified the man's death a homicide.Additional details were not released. New Orleans police were investigating the death of man whose body was found in the grass near a Lakeview cemetery Friday morning (June 9).The man's body was found near an entrance drive to Greenwood Cemetery and First Baptist Church New Orleans (map). NOPD spokesman Juan Barnes said the man had been shot, but said the death was unclassified. He declined to say if foul play was suspected.Officers as of 8:30 a.m. were blocking the entrance drive and people dropping children off at the church for daycare were being diverted. Traffic on Canal Boulevard was not affected by investigation, as of 8:30 a.m.A Greenwood Cemetery employee discovered the man's body about 7 a.m. while making her routine morning rounds of the grounds, said Pat McMahon, 63, an ambassador for Greenwood Funeral Home.McMahon said the employee saw the man's body and honked her horn, thinking he was sleeping. When she realized he wasn't moving, she called authorities. She was born in Greenwood, SC, on August 9, 1943 to the late Charlie Spearman, Jr. and Mary Boozer Spearman.Mary was a member of Allen Chapel AME Church. She formerly worked as a seamstress with Oxford Industries.Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a daughter, Marietta Williams of the home; two brothers, Willie Spearman of Greenwood, Charlie Washington Spearman, III (Bishop Ethel Tolbert Spearman) of Greenville; a sister, Earline Spearman Aiken of Greenwood; three grandchildren, Jaeunna Williams, Adrienne Williams, and Dephontavious Williams.Services will be held Sunday, June 11, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Allen Chapel AME Church, with Reverend Annette Edwards officiating.
