She had resided at Groesbeck LTC for the past eight years, and continued to enjoy Bingo there for a long time. Betty worshipped at the Prairie Grove Baptist Church as long as her health permitted.Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband William B. Duke; brother and sister-iin-law, Joe L. and Barbara Popejoy; brother and sister-in-law, James and Nelda Popejoy; sister, Nadine Popejoy Stafford; and sister-in-law, Sandra Hughes-Popejoy.She is survived by her brother, Dwain Popejoy of Groesbeck; brother-in-law, Jesse Stafford of South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.Visit to leave messages of condolence on the guestbook.

Oct. 12 at the Gold­en Living Cen­ter of Chase County, Cotton­wood Falls.Cremation took place with the service planned at a later date. Burial will be at Prairie Grove Cemetery near Cottonwood Falls, and scheduled also at a later date.He was born Feb 5, 1937, to Edward C. and Osha (Jack) Thurston in Chase County. On Nov. 24, 1957, he was married to JoAnn Buchman, who survives.Other survivors include sons Lou and wife Lori Thurston of Hillsboro and Kirk and wife Angela Thurston of Harper; daughters Debra and husband Terry Scott of Allen, Texas, and Marty Thurston and Wayne Criger of Plano, Texas; sister Charlotte Daw­son of Marion; seven grandchildren and seven great­­-grandchildren.Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Asso­cia­tion and sent in care of the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home, P.O. Jr. and wife, Anne Breaux of Slidell, Randall and wife, Connie Breaux of Centerville, Adrienne Nicole Breaux of New Orleans, Larry, Jr. and wife, Wendy Aguillard of Baton Rouge, Justin Churchill of Prairie Grove, AR., Erica and husband, David Fields of Woodstock, GA., Maranda and husband, Randall McElwee of Eunice, and Lindsay and husband, Joshua Regan of Youngsville. She was blessed with 17 great-grandchildren.
