Mrs. BarfieldMrs. Bertie Fowler Barfield, local artist, age 85, of Aragon, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017.She was born in Tate on March 12, 1932 a daughter of the late Burton B. Fowler and Mamie Disharoon Fowler.Mrs. Barfield had been a resident of Aragon since 1975 moving here from Marietta.She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rockmart and was a regular at the Bojangles in Rockmart most mornings. She was a local painter and artist who also enjoyed fishing.In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Emory Wilbur Barfield on Oct. 25, 2006 to whom she was married for 55 years; and by a brother Howard Fowler and sister, Jewel Thomas.Survivors include daughters: Becky Sailors (Tillman), Marietta; Peggy Moss (James), Dallas; sons: David Barfield (Tisse), Lawrenceville, Steven Barfield, Aragon and estranged son, Joseph Barfield (Jennifer), Tallapoosa; sisters: Marjorie Wigley, Edison, GA and Jolene Gravitt, Rockmart; sister in law, Ruth Fowler, Auburn, Ala.; 17 grandchildren,

Kenneth received his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Tampa in Tampa, Florida.Kenneth was inducted into the United States Army in 1958. He served his country honorably and received numerous commendations including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with five Campaign stars, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, two overseas Service Stars, and the Bronze Star Medal. He was also an Expert Marksman in Rifle. Kenneth retired from the United States Army in 1978 with the rank of Major.He was united in marriage to Burnice Mary Procknaw on Jan. 23, 1959 in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. They made their first home in Las Cruces, New Mexico because Kenneth was stationed at the White Sands Missile Range. They were blessed with two children, Terry Alan and Paula Annette. The family lived in numerous different cities because of Kenneth’s time in the military. After his retirement from the military, Kenneth was an Agency Manager with Farm Bureau Insurance. They moved to Woodward in 2013 to be near their daughter Paula and family.Kenneth was a member of the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church in Woodward and had served as a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Raeford, North Carolina. He was also a member of the Masons, the Kiwanis and the VFW. Former KARK host and longtime Arkansas musician and entertainer Betty Fowler died Saturday.Fowler, who in the 1950s hosted the children's show Betty's Little Rascals as well as KARK-TV's Little Rock Today, was 91. An obituary that ran in Tuesday's Arkansas Democrat-Gazette noted that Fowler's hosting duties on KARK included performing in live commercials, playing piano and interviewing celebrities ranging from Liberace to Bob Hope. Fowler also performed in a band, The Betty Fowler Four, and served as the musical director for the Miss Arkansas Pageant for more than 20 years. At an 89th birthday party in 2014, Fowler reminisced about her career, including her time on KARK and a stint hosting The Farkleberry Follies, a theatrical show that spoofed Arkansas politicians and other newsmakers."I can't tell you how much fun this has been for me today," she said then.Fowler's obituary said she "will forever be remembered and treasured for her lifetime love and devotion to the world of music, both in performing and in the teaching of music to others."Fowler died a
