Thursday, Sept. 22 in Salem.He was born in Texline, Texas, the middle of five brothers. The family moved from Texas to Oregon in 1936. Charley married Marie Orlando on May 12, 1946, in Santa Cruz, California.They moved to Mill City in 1949 following the purchase of the grocery store that became Stewart’s Grocery. For the 50 years that the store was in business, Charley could be found in a white apron greeting people from behind the butcher counter. A life-long nature lover, Charley enjoyed fishing, baseball and walks on “the property.” Over the years, he was active in the community and a member of the Mill City Volunteer Fire Department, the American Legion, the Rebekahs and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He also enjoyed attending Santiam High School sporting events.Survivors include his daughter Nancy of Santa Rosa, California; grandchildren Chelsea of Brooklyn, New York, and Samuel of Seattle, Washington; daughter-in-law Renee of Mill City; brothers Thomas of Redmond and Campbell “Dub” of Eugene. After graduating from IIT, he spent many years in Sales and Marketing at various companies in Chicago, Sunnyvale, California, and Austin, Texas.After moving to Austin, he became actively involved at Santa Cruz Catholic Church. Bob was a member of the Finance Council and managed the weekly bingo fundraiser for the parish. He joined Council 9038 of the Knights of Columbus where he held the office of Deputy Grand Knight for several years. He also was a Fourth Degree Knight serving as Faithful Navigator for 5 years in the Blessed Mother Assembly.Bob enjoyed and worked hard on his golf game. He enjoyed playing locally at Onion Creek Country Club, in California, in Hawaii with his father-in-law, Wally, and while on a business trip to Japan.
