William B. Hart, 84, of Forksville, died Friday, April 14, 2017, at Towanda Memorial Hospital. Born November 13, 1932 in New Albany, he was a son of the late Raymond L. and Ethel (Baker) Hart. He and his wife, the former Nancy Taylor, would have celebrated 22 years of marriage on November 15, 2017. Bill was a dedicated and respected dairy farmer his entire life and was the fifth generation owner of High Hart Farms. As a young man, he was the recipient of the Keystone Farmer Award for outstanding farming, as-well-as many other conservation awards for farming. He was a member of the Susquehanna Car Club, the Ogdensburg Gun Club, Sullivan County Planning Commission, Evergreen Lodge #163 F. & A.M., and an honorary member of the Sullivan County Fair where he formerly served as vice president. He was a former member of the Sullivan County Conservation District, and past president of the Greenwood Cemetery Association. Bill enjoyed hunting with family and friends. Irv was co-founder and flutist/saxophonist with Capitol Chamber Artists for over 40 years. He was a member for 12 years of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Professor of Music at the University of Albany, for 15 years was Principal flutist with the Albany Symphony Orchestra.He may be heard in solo and chamber music recordings on Centaur and Albany Records and orchestral and jazz recordings on Motown, RCA Victor and Mercury Records.Irvin Gilman (photo courtesy Mary Lou Saetta)Mr. Gilman performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Symphony of the Air, American Ballet Theater, Royal Ballet Orchestra. Mr. Gilman was in residence two summers with Capitol Chamber Artists at the JAZZ TO CLASSICS FESTIVAL in Fairbanks, Alaska. Irvin Gilman is a published poet. Gilman’s poetry inspired by music is featured in his collection, IMAGINE A FLUTE. He published numerous articles in musical publications. Mr. Gilman performed in Boston with CCA as a winner of SoHIP (Society for Historically Informed Performance).Irvin Gilman was born to Russian immigrant parents in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was their first born. Irvin loved music, especially the big bands. His grandmother paid for music lessons and Irv’s first musical job was at age 17 playing in the Troc Theater Burlesque House Orchestra. Later that year he joined the Navy – serving for two years in World War II. The GI Bill enabled Irvin to study music at Oberlin Conservatory and Manhattan School of Music, studying with the two greatest flutists of that era: John Wummer, principal flutist with the NY Philharmonic and William Kincaid, principal flutist with the Philadelphia Orchestra.
