She was born on June 30, 1933 in Council Bluffs, IA, to Robert and Lola (Thirkell) Eddleman. Ginny married Stephen Haught on February 14, 1954 in Omaha, NE. Ginny worked at Byam & Hoarty Law Firm and at the UNMC Alumni Center. She was pre­ceded in death by her husband, Stephen, in 1998. Ginny is survived by her children: Laurie Born and husband Greg; Kathy Anderson and husband Mike; Wade Haught and wife Katie; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends. Merzedes Hart Brown, a freshman track team member at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and former Female Athlete of the Year at Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs.The 19-year-old died Jan. 13 after she was hit by a vehicle near Waverly, Nebraska.The family has had a tough time dealing with the deaths, Robert Balkovec said.“I’m still in disbelief,” he said.Sandra Balkovec began caring for her grandchildren after the school where she worked as a secretary, Washington Elementary in Council Bluffs, closed.Her husband said his wife loved baby-sitting the kids.“She was very happy to do that,” sacrificing the income, he said.Sandra Balkovec was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2014. Eventually the disease spread to her brain and elsewhere. She went home for hospice care the day before Hart Brown’s funeral, he said.Sandra Balkovec loved God, people and animals — in that order, he said. The Nebraska City native and 1971 graduate of Plattsmouth (Nebraska) High School belonged to the United Church of God in Bellevue, Robert Balkovec said.She worked with horses at the former Ak-Sar-Ben racetrack and eventually owned her own horses and other pets, he said.She loved the outdoors and gardening and was optimistic about life, he said. “She never once complained about her cancer.”“She was a great lady, a great wife,” Balkovec said.Additional survivors include her children, Stacy Brown of Council Bluffs, Travis Muellner of Minneapolis and Dustin Muellner of Winterset, Iowa; mother, Marge Payton of Plattsmouth; brothers Tom Payton of the Omaha area and Rick Payton; stepdaughters Jennie Balkovec of Bellevue and Jamie Balkovec of San Francisco.The fun...

Donald proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He worked for many years at Jackson Home Appliance and was a member of First Christian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Linda.
