Acton resident brought special view of life to work at Lincoln Library - Wicked Local Littleton

Monday, January 09, 2017

That’s what gets us Brackens through,” said Jeanne Bracken,of Littleton, Lisa's mom.The tune by Monty Python member Eric Idle, along with “Imagine” by John Lennon and “Joy to the World” by Hoyt Axton were just a few songs the 40-year-old requested be played during her memorial service. Bracken lost her battle to cancer Nov. 8, Election Day. The last time she left the house was to vote early, said Jeanne.Bracken was raised in Littleton, attended high school in Acton, lived Acton and worked at Lincoln Public Library, where she had a large patron following, according Alyssa Freden, Lincoln Library’s Head of Technical Services, who now occupies the same desk Bracken once worked at for years. Bracken’s Simpson’s calendar, her tea mugs and a colored-in picture of a Disney princess from a young patron are traces of her that still remain.“She was always watching movies and had a wide variety of reading taste. She really loved working here. She was a really great co-worker, kept the humor going,” said Freden, noting when she started two years ago, she was unaware of Bracken’s illness. “It’s not something she ever really talked about. It seemed like she’d come here to not talk about being sick.”Since 1997 until last September, Bracken worked as a Senior Library Technician at the Lincoln Public Library. The library’s staff carried her through several serious illnesses, two periods of dialysis, a kidney transplant, and a subsequent new cancer diagnosis. Freden recalled Bracken dressing...
