Approved an exchange of property between Great Plains Auto Body and the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Great Plains, which owns the old Charlie Graham Body and Service at 4206 Leavenworth St., will trade that property for UNMC-owned property at 4103 Leavenworth. UNMC expects to use its acquisition as a campus entryway from the south side.» Agreed to allow Nebraska Medicine, UNMC’s hospital partner, to tap into a UNMC utility line project. UNMC is extending its underground utility pipes to serve the new Lauritzen outpatient facility and other buildings on the south edge of campus. Nebraska Medicine will pay $1.75 million to extend the project to provide chilled water and steam to a new facility near 39th and Pacific Streets.» Approved a $1.1 million expenditure for a scanning transmission electron microscope for the UNL department of mechanical and materials engineering.» Agreed to allow UNeMed, UNMC’s technology-transfer entity, to become a nonprofit. UNeMed said there are advantages in gaining money from foundations as a nonprofit and in appointing board members. However, a related arm will function as a for-profit entity because there are advantages in doing international business and some consulting work as a for-profit, UNeMed’s Michael Dixon said this week.rick.ruggles@owh.com, 402-444-1123, twitter.com/rickruggles...
