MONDOVI/ARCADIA — DonnaMae Ruth Wineski, 83, of Mondovi and formerly of Arcadia, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017, at the American Lutheran Home, Mondovi.Donna was born Dec. 26, 1933, in Green Bay, Wis., to Lester A. and Agnes S. (George) Kutt.Donna graduated from Arcadia High School and went on to school to become a licensed practical nurse. She had worked for Dr. Lleva and at the Mayo Clinic Health System Franciscan Healthcare Hospital, Arcadia. She married Robert Wineski and later divorced. Donna was a member of Holy Family Parish, the P.C.C.W, and the former Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Rosary Society. She enjoyed cross stitching, crocheting, knitting, sewing, and watching TV. Donna enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Donna is survived by her children, Michael (Carol) Wineski of Arcadia, Daniel Wineski of Eau Claire, Steven Wineski of La Crosse, Mark (Lucia) Wineski of Arcadia, Terri (Rob) Ganschow of Mondovi; siblings, Francis (Marilyn) Kutt of Va., M...

Mr. Sampson started his 30-year career with the state of Rhode Island at the Lafayette Fish Hatchery, on to the Arcadia Management Area, then as foreman of the Division of Environmental Management Natural Resources Fish & Wildlife at the Great Swamp Management Area.Vern was a member of Slocum Grange, enjoyed many bowling leagues and was an avid outdoorsman. He was a natural with animals and was surrounded among pets his entire life. He was once known as the “Mayor of Wickford” as he frequented many coffee shops around town and will always be remembered for his smile.He leaves his loving children, David M. Sampson; James V. Sampson and his wife, Patricia, of North Kingstown; Julie A. Sampson and her fiancé, Edward Duffin, of North Kingstown; and Vernon “Bud” J. Sampson Jr. and his fiancée, Robin Davis, of Conway, South Carolina. He was the cherished grandfather of six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. NATCHITOCHES – Visitation is Thursday evening with a Friday morning funeral in Arcadia for legendary Northwestern State basketball star George McConathy, whose nephew Mike is the veteran NSU head coach. McConathy, 82, a native of the McConathy family's hometown of Bryceland in Bienville Parish, passed away Monday after a lengthy illness. Visitation is Thursday from 5-7 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1680 First Street in Arcadia. A 10 a.m. funeral will be held there Friday, followed by internment with full military honors at the Williamson Cemetery in nearby Sailes. McConathy was an educator, coach and businessman. He was a 1982 inductee in Northwestern's N-Club Hall of Fame, and was also a Louisiana Basketball Hall of Fame member. He still ranks 10th all-time in scoring in Demon basketball history with 1,436 points in 116 games from 1951-56, an average of 12.4 per game. McConathy stands ninth all-time in rebounding with 715, a career 6.2 average. During McConathy's career, the Demons posted an 82-39 record, winning 20 games in two seasons while never losing more tha...
