Monday, March 27, 2017Bruce Michael Behrens, 67, of Romney, passed away suddenly on March 22, 2017 at his residence. Born on August 15, 1949 in the City of New York, he was the son of the late Maurice Francis and Audrey McLeod Behrens.He grew up in New York City and attended Stoneybrook College. He became a cab driver in Manhattan then hitchhiked across the United States to find himself. He eventually found his love for carpentry when he built his first house without any power tools. Later, he became an expert carpenter and built a successful historic renovation business in Middleburg, Va. Bruce settled in West Virginia where he met the love of his life, Ann. Not only were they husband and wife, but also best friends. He was a devoted father, involved in Boy Scouts, and taught Sunday school. He shared a love of books with his sons that will continue on. Bruce loved to garden, sculpt, and make people laugh. There is an upstairs, as well, which is where our Danvers foursome of Alan Hartnett, Larry Crowley, Kay Maurice, and I who all knew Malcolm, the father, well as a fellow Kiwanian.We also recalled meeting Doug and his kids many times at a Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast when his dad was one of the volunteers.We were fortunate to get four seats together before they completely filled and barred others from going up. In the basement, there was also a full house with standing room only. Those on the lowest level watched the service via closed circ...
