Tuesday, April 18, 2017Donald B. Bohn Sr., who spent four decades in the automobile dealership business his father founded, died Friday (March 17) at his Metairie home. He was 93.A native New Orleanian, Mr. Bohn started out at Bohn Motor Co., which his father, George Bohn Sr., had founded in the 1920s on South Broad Street near Washington Avenue.From there, he moved to Dick Bohn Ford in Gretna; he and his brother Dick were co-owners. His last stop was a dealership bearing his name, Don Bohn Ford, in Harvey, where he worked with his sons. They bought the dealership when he retired in 1988, Donald Bohn Jr. said.The next generation of Bohns moved beyond Fords, running dealerships that sold Toyotas, Audis, Hyundais, Buicks, Pontiacs and GMC trucks, he said.They don't use the Bohn name on their dealerships, Donald Bohn Jr. said, because they sold that in 2000 to Group 1 Automotive of Houston.Mr. Bohn, who graduated from Jesuit High School and attended Loyola University, served in the Coast Guard during World War II. He spent six months of that stint in the Pacific theater.Survivors include his wife, Mary G. Bohn; three sons, Donald Bohn Jr.

Graveside blessings at 12:30 p.m. at Lake Lawn.Morvant was a member of the KATC family. He was born and resided in New Orleans with past residences in Albuquerque, NM, U.S. Territory of Guam, Lafayette, LA, Beaumont and Waco, TX, and Columbus, MS. He was a graduate of Fortier High School in 1957, the University of Mississippi in 1962, and Tulane University School of Law in 1965.After practicing law for several years, his career shifted to journalism at The Times-Picayune. Newspaper positions and editorships in Louisiana and Texas were followed by a transition to television news in Mississippi (WCBI), Texas (KWTX) and Lafayette (KATC) Louisiana.In 1985, he was named news director of Western Systems, Inc. a chain of television and radio stations in Micronesia and Hawaii. He was 85.Giambelluca, who died at the Louisiana Southeast War Veterans Home in Reserve, was honored at a memorial service Monday at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home in New Orleans.Giambelluca graduated from Warren Easton High School in New Orleans and received a football scholarship from Mississippi State University.After serving in the Korean War as an Army sergeant, he helped run his family's construction business.In 1983, he easily defeated two opponents to win an open Metairie-based seat on the School Board. He then won a Parish Council district seat in 1992 after defeating incumbent Robert DeViney.During 12 years on the council, Giambelluca prioritized funding improvements to area drainage canals, especially in the wake of devastating flash floods in May 1995.At the Bonnabel boat launch, a popular recreational spot, he pushed for new landscaping as well as a specialized parking area that allowed for grass to grow and reduced the amount of pollutants running into Lake Pontchartrain.He weathered some intense land-use battles, including over a building program by Metairie Park Country Day School and a rezoning of the Causeway Boulevard corridor that some property owners hailed as progress and others attacked as commercial intrusion.Heading calls from constituen...
