Together Again”BOARDMAN – Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017, at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima, for Bertha A. (Whan) Richards, 98, formerly of 11150 Woodworth Road in North Lima. She passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017, at Beeghly Oaks in Boardman, where she was currently residing.Bertha was born on Feb. 4, 1918, in Youngstown, the daughter of William Homer Whan and Margaret Matilda (Roys) Whan.A graduate of North Lima High School, class of 1936, Bertha played basketball for NLHS.She was a member of the North Lima Grange and the Mt. Olivet United Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday school.She enjoyed golfing two days a week until she was in her 80s. She also enjoyed bowling, writing poetry, reading, playing Solitaire, and taking care of her rose garden.She and her husband, Paul enjoyed traveling to Florida, playing cards, hosting both family picnics and the traditional Whan family Christmas night. She loved caring for her great-grandson, Drew, whenever she had the chance, teaching him the love of golf!Before her marriage, she worked for the Sheet and Tube Co. in the payroll office.Bertha married her husband, Paul...

The teen, whose name was not released by police or school officials, died just after midnight on Wednesday.As news of her death spread to the school community, Donald Woodworth, high school principal, responded by issuing a notice to parents announcing that a member of the junior class had died of a drug overdose and that efforts were being made to help students cope with the death.Jones said she couldn’t discuss the circumstances surrounding the death.“We’re still looking into it,” she said.The teen’s death came just three days after a young man from Atkinson died.Devin T. Rooney, 29, died Sept. 4 from “complications of a long, hard fought battle with drug addiction,” according to his obituary.Rooney, who moved to Plaistow in 1998, was a member of the high school football team and graduated from Timberlane Regional High School in 2004. He was the father of a 2-year-old daughter and was awaiting the birth of his second daughter at the time of his death.Rooney’s death followed the passing of James Thomas Doucette, III. The 27-year-old Plaistow man died at his home on Aug. 20 after an “accidental heroin overdose,” his obituary said.Meanwhile, police in Kingston continue to investigate the death of Lillian Pease, an 18-year-old from Newton who died Aug. 17.Pease, who graduated from Sanborn Regional High School in June, died just hours after she attended a party in Kingston.State and local investigators are looking into whether drugs and/or alcohol were factors in her death.Police and fire personnel were called to the Shel...
