Man who died while skiing at Mount Sunapee identified - The Union Leader

Newbury police have identified Thomas Schnellinger, 45, of North Andover, Mass., as the man who died skiing earlier this month at Mount Sunapee Resort ski area.Schnellinger, who worked at DEKA Research and Development in Manchester, was found unresponsive on the Skyway trail on March 12.The ski patrol delivered cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and he was transported to New London Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.According to an online obituary, Schnellinger worked at DEKA for the last 17 years. Thomas had exceptional welding and mechanical design skills and was named on many patents as a co-inventor.Survivors include his mother, Dagmar; his brother, Andrew; and his fiancée, Angela, who lives in Merrimack.Calling hours are today from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Conte Funeral Home in North Andover, Mass.

Daniel was the son of the late Rosemary and Donato Placido, both of whom emigrated from Italy.He graduated from Lawrence High School and attended St. John’s Prep School in Danvers, MA, as well as Andover Academy in Andover, MA. He was accepted at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which he planned to attend, but was drafted by the Army and served in World War II. Daniel was witness to the aftermath of the massacre of Malmady and was called as a potential witness at Nuremberg. He was wounded in the battle of the Ardennes, flown to Belgium, where he was awarded the Belgium Fourragere, the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.He holds a degree in chemistry from the University of Miami and graduated from the Georgetown University School of Dentistry in Washington, DC, in 1955. In 1961 Daniel graduated from the University of Rochester’s Eastman Dental Dispensary with a certificate in orthodontics. Until the time of his death, he was a practicing orthodontist in Denton, MD, where he owned his own office. The joy of his life was the children he treated.He was a past member of the Middle Atlantic Society of Orthodontists, Maryland State Dental Society and the Southern Maryland Dental Society. (Winkle) Buckley.Formerly of Andover, Carol was employed at Kaydee Manufacturing in Orwell, Ohio, and was a homemaker. She attended the First Baptist Church of Andover. Carol loved to paint yard ornaments, doing crafts and knitting afghans.Carol married Edgar G. Hindle on August 24, 1968 and he preceded her in death on October 8, 2010. Nelson Maldonado, 59, of Lawrence said he never met the boy but wanted to show his support for his family."I wanted to pay my respects," he told the North Andover, Massachusetts Eagle-Tribune.Superintendent of Schools Jeff Riley, Assistant Superintendent Mary Lou Bergeron, Michael Fiato, Lawrence High headmaster, and Mayor Daniel Rivera all arrived to pay their respects to the family when services started at 4 p.m.LHS student Genessi Ramirez, 17, went to the service because she wanted Viloria-Paulino's family to know the community supports them "in their tragic loss." "And that justice should be made," she added. On Thursday, Dec. 1, a woman walking her dog called police after spotting a decapitated body on a river bank about a mile from the high school. Within minutes, the area was teeming with police officers and detectives. The following day, the body was officially identified as Viloria-Paulino, who was reported missing by his family members on Nov. 19.His classmate, Mathew Borges, 15, is being held without bail, charged with first-degree murder. According to police, Borges told an unidentified witness that he stabbed and then beheaded Viloria-Paulino on Nov. 18 after the two went to the river bank that evening to smoke marijuana.The motive for the murder remains unclear. At the funeral home Friday evening, mourners knelt to pray in front of a white casket adorned by several sprays and vases of flowers.  The poster board signed by students was displayed among pictures of Viloria-Paulino throughout his life, according to mourners.A stunning black and white portrait of Viloria-Paulino by local artist Samil Alba was also on display in the funeral home. LHS teacher Sondra Longo said the murder has "been such a blow to the high school community." "I just wanted to show the family we are all there for them," she said as she was leaving the funeral home ...
