It says that he “died unexpectedly on December 31, 2016.”Kay’s obituary and Facebook page both say he was from Brookline, New Hampshire. The Brookline police told Heavy that they have no report of Kay’s death. So far, Kay’s exact cause of death has not been released (this post will be updated as more details are learned.)Fueling the mystery, the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner and Coroner in the state where Kay lived has no record of his death. “His death was not reported to us. I don’t think he died in NH,” Kim Fallon, Chief Forensic Investigator in New Hampshire, told Heavy. New Hampshire is the state where Kay’s obituary said he lived and is also the state where his funeral will be held.The funeral home declined comment, citing privacy concerns, a phone number for his mother was disconnected, and even some friends aren’t certain how he died. A former "Survivor" contestant with ties to Massachusetts and New Hampshire died unexpectedly on New Year's Eve.Daniel Kay, 40, who lived in Brookline, New Hampshire, died unexpectedly, according to his obituary. Kay was a native of Walpole, Massachusetts, and received his undergraduate degree from UMass-Amherst. He worked as an attorney for the U.S. Air Force at Hanscom Air Force Base.His cause of death has not been released.Kay competed on "Survivor: Gabon" in 2008. He was the eighth person voted off the show.According to his obituary, Kay enjoyed running and skiing.
