Prosecutor: Slain Palmer Township woman was ambushed - Allentown Morning Call

Monday, March 06, 2017

Lane. Her body was found in her car inside the garage, leading investigators to believe the gunman either gained entry to the home or followed her inside when she returned from her morning routine, Northampton County Assistant District Attorney Terry Houck said."She wasn't able to defend herself," Houck said. "She never had a chance; it's just that simple."A suspect in her death, Leonard Moser, 45, with whom authorities believe she had a past relationship, appeared to have killed himself later that day. Houck said it will take time for police to complete firearms ballistics testing and interview neighbors before conclusively identifying the gunman, but investigators have no other suspects."Right now, everything points to him being the guy," Houck said.Community members wanting to pay their respects to Menzo Santoro — remembered for her smile and support for youth sports — can visit a local funeral home this week.Menzo Santoro worked many years as a dental assistant and most recently worked as a bookkeeper for RDE Systems Support Group, according to her obituary on the Morello Funeral Home website.Public calling hours will be 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home in Palmer Township.A Mass of Christian Burial will be at noon Wednesday in Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 400 Maywood Avenue, Maywood, N.J.Interment will follow at George Washington Cemetery, 234 Paramus Road, Param...

Va. memorial honors firefighter, EMS line of duty fallen - Delmarva Daily Times

Monday, December 12, 2016

The Line of Duty Death Memorial is on the grounds of the Eastern Shore Regional Fire Training Center, which is operated jointly by Accomack and Northampton counties, on Beacon Road in Melfa.Planning and fundraising for the memorial have been in the works for more than five years. The idea for a memorial was near to the heart of deceased Parksley Volunteer Fire Company member Jimmy Rowley, who died before he could see it completed. The flagpole at the monument is dedicated to his memory and was donated by Parksley Volunteer Fire Company."Jimmy was very instrumental in getting it started," said Accomack County Director of Public Safety Charles R. Pruitt.Rowley, a 44-year-member of Parksley Volunteer Fire Company who also served as chaplain and parlimentarian of the Delmarva Volunteer Firemen's Association, died at age 59 after an illness on Dec. 4, 2013.Rowley was known as the informal custodian of the history of volunteer firefighting on Virginia's Eastern Shore and was often consulted for his knowledge. His depth of knowledge of local firefighting history led to his passion for building a memorial to local volunteer firefighters and rescue workers who died in the line of duty, and he was a member of a committee set up to explore the idea. The memorial design subsequently was developed by that committee, which included members from Accomack and Northampton coun...

Activist Sirdeaner Walker, mother of bullied Carl Walker-Hoover, dead at 51 - MassLive.com

Monday, October 10, 2016

Carl Joseph Walker-Hoover, a sixth-grader who liked to read and play football, was targeted by his bullies as gay. The day he took his life on the second floor of the family's home on Northampton Street, he had told his mother he faced a five-day suspension for accidentally causing a TV set to bump a girl at school.Sirdeaner Walker legacy: Anti-bullying activism after son's suicide"I don't understand why, if you live in Springfield, you should expect less from your school. I know parents have issues and are challenged, but you still should be able to send your children to a school where it is a safe community," his mother told The Republican in an interview last year.Walker spearheaded anti-bullying legislation in the state and met with President Barack Obama at the White House. She was honored by numerous civic groups for her work.On her Facebook page, Walker wrote optimistically a month ago that God would cure her of her illness."To my friends in the fight hold on and don't believe the doctor's report believe the Lord's report. Hold on until your change has come regardless of what you are facing today, work, family, addiction, domestic violence whatever it is don't give up on God!" Anne-Gerard Flynn contributed to this report.
