Waldo N. "Bumpa" Pierce, Jr., 90, longtime resident of both Auburn and Paxton, passed away Tuesday, June 20th, 2017 at Parsons Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Worcester.Waldo was born in Grafton, son of the late Waldo N. Sr. and Hazel Pierce. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School. He worked for Norton Company of Worcester as a pipefitter for 27 years. He served as a Private First Class in the US Army Infantry during World War II, working in Japan for a short time. He was an avid golfer and family man. He loved to travel to Maine, Hawaii, and California. Waldo was an active member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Auburn and was a member of their men’s group for many years. Waldo was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Barbara M. Pierce, this past November. He is survived by two daughters, Joann L. Monks and her husband, Darren Monks of Auburn, and Donna M. Godfrey of Lunenburg; two granddaughters, Heather L. and Jessica L. Monks both of Auburn; a great grandson, Hayden J. Monks of Auburn; and is survived by several nieces, nephews, and c...

She attended St. Anne School in Webster and the former St. Anne Academy (Marlborough), earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music from Anna Maria College (Paxton), an MA from Duquesne University, and a Doctoral degree in ministry from Boston University, School of Theology, and received an Honorary Doctorate in Education from Anna Maria College.She joined the Sisters of St. Anne in Lachine, Quebec in 1949, pronounced vows in 1950 and returned to New England to begin teaching. She taught music and religion in schools staffed by the Sisters of St. Anne in Newton and in Worcester (Holy Name High School). She also became the Director of Novices and Postulates in Marlborough, and the Director of Formation and Spiritual Animation in the American province. She also was a liturgist, choir director and musician.An engaging lecturer, she led programs and retreats in parishes in the Archdiocese of Boston and the Diocese of Worcester, as well as facilitating individual and group spiritual direction.
