Edward Wareham Cochran Jr. of Hagerstown, Md., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at his residence, surrounded by his family.Born March 26, 1946, in Boston, Mass., he was the son of the late Edward Wareham Cochran Sr. and the late Laura Jane Stickell Cochran.He graduated from North Hagerstown High School in 1964 and Lehigh University in 1968 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was also a member of Pi Tau Sigma, an honorary mechanical engineering fraternity. Throughout high school and college, he was a competitive tennis player, golfer and swimmer.He served in three branches of the military, and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1972, the National Guard Reserves in 1974 and U.S. Navy Reserves in 1976.He began his career with IBM in Washington, D.C., in the early days of computers as a salesman and formed lifelong friendships.In 1973, he joined J. George F. Barrett, 90 of Wareham passed away on March 20 after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s. Born in Boston, the eldest son of George T. Barrett and Mary V (Payne) Barrett-McCarthy.Mr. Barrett is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marguerite E. (Klocker) Barrett and their daughter Judith Sullivan and husband Donald Sullivan, daughter Kathy Murphy and husband Roland Murphy and son George Barrett and wife Kerry Barrett. He adored his five grandchildren Elena Murphy, Elisabeth (Murphy) Langelier, Ryan Sullivan, Joel Sullivan and Greg Barrett. And he was constantly amazed by his seven great-grandchildren Faye, Grant, Pierce, Henry and Theodore Sullivan, Mae Langelier and Bentley Barrett. Wendell M. Lake, 82, of Wareham died Dec. 6 at Tobey Hospital in Wareham. He was the husband of Marguerite S. (Fiocchi) Lake.Born in Wareham, the son of the late James H. and Florence (Perry) Lake, he graduated from Wareham High School in 1952. Mr. Lake worked for the A&P Grocery Store for 46 years. He retired as meat manager in 1996.He was a four-term member of the Wareham Fire District Prudential Committee and served two terms as Water Commissioner. Mr. Lake also served as a special officer on the Wareham Police Department, picked cranberries for local growers during the harvest and raised greyhound racing dogs.He was a life member of the Wareham-New Bedford Lodge of Elks #73, a member of the Cromesset Tribe of Red Men #156, and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose #1308 in Venice, Florida where he wintered for 18 years. Lawrence W. Brooks, 88, of Wareham passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Nov. 18 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Priscilla F. Brooks.Lawrence was born on Nov. 27, 1927 to John and Jean Brooks. He enlisted in the Merchant Marines at the age of 16 and served aboard Liberty Ships that transported goods, materials and troops across the Atlantic during World War II.After his wartime service, Larry went to work for Powers Regulator Company as a service representative, and later as their service salesman until his retirement.Larry was most proud of his service to his country as a Merchant Marine and worked tirelessly with the National Merchant Marines Veterans Association to gain veteran status recognition to Merchant Marines who served.
