The Houseman Funeral Home – Birk Chapel of Canby is entrusted with the arrangements.Irene A. Ferguson was born July 25, 1920, to George and Nettie (Kearney) Boyer in Aitkin County, Minn. She attended school at the District 56 Hassman Rural School.On June 30, 1944, she married Omar J. Ferguson in Aitkin, Minn. They had four children: Gordy, Judy, Janet and Linda. They lived in Canby and farmed for many years. In 1975 they built a home a half mile west of Canby. She lived there happily for 40 years, planting trees and tending her garden.Irene took great pride in her home and enjoyed decorating for all the seasons. There was always a vase of fresh flowers on the table in the summer time. She was a wonderful cook and baker. Nobody visited without the offer of a cup of coffee and a tasty treat to go with it.One of her greatest joys was seeing her friends and family gather for a festive meal. Everyone looked forward to her homemade lefse.There was always great conversation and laughter around her kitchen table. She will be greatly missed.Irene is survived by her children, Gordon (Kathy) Ferguson of Canby, Minn., Janet (Larry) Teske of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Linda (Allen) Whitaker of Brookings; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Henrietta Boyer of Aitkin, Minn., and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.She was preceded in death by her husband, Omar; her sister, Gladys Spratt; brothers, William, Mike, Orie, Woodrow, and Robert; daughter...
