Elizabeth E. “Bette” Kaul, age 96 of Faribault, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016, in the early morning at St. Lucas Care Center, Sheltering Arms.A celebration of her caring, fun and interesting life will be held at The Inn at Shattuck-St. Mary’s in Faribault on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2016, from 1-4 p.m. A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. with Fr. Henry Doyle, officiating, followed by a light lunch. Interment will be held at the St. Lawrence Cemetery, Faribault.A complete obituary will be published closer to the date of service.Arrangements are being completed by the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault.

A subject that I am passionate about is “Faribault’s Lindy,” that fire-haired daredevil pilot who graced the skies from Faribault to Cuba and from Canada to Arizona during the late ‘20s and early ‘30s. Dale “Red” Jackson grew up on a farm on the south side of Faribault where the present day Straight River Trail and the River Bend Trail converge.As a teenager, he dreamed of becoming a pilot while he delivered food for Kaul’s Grocers on a bicycle. When he had saved enough money, he made his way to Von Hoffman Aircraft School in St. Louis, where he reportedly told instructors that he “wanted to learn all there was about the business.” Within three years, Jackson had earned the position of chief test pilot for Curtiss-Robertson and had become a Curtiss Flying School instructor and a well-known stunt pilot.During the next three years, “Red” crisscrossed North America many times. Flying events included the Miami All-American Air Meet, the Gardner and Thompson Trophy Races and the Cleveland Air Races, the Mexico City – Kansas City D...
