The mentally challenged resident was somewhat of a Shelbyville landmark. He would spend time with his sister in Indiana during the holidays and then would return to Shelbyville.... Charles Frazee was elected president of the Shelby County Firefighters Association. Rob Rothenburger was vice president and Kathy Jones was secretary/treasurer.... Avey Saunders won the level seven state championship at the USGF Kentucky State Meet; Amber Saunders was 17th in level six; and Lauren Schott was 50th in level five.... Health problems forced Steve Howerton to retire from his work with the Shelby County Clerk's office... Carolyn Smith passed down the gavel as president of the Shelbyville Board of Realtors to Joyce Nay. Other officers installed were Doug Aldridge, vice president; Gil Lawson, president-elect; Kathy Hargadon, secretary; Jimmy Willard, treasurer; and directors, Billy Bob Coomes, Jeanne Bohannon and Belinda Shouse.... Births: Rebecca Sue Case, Elizabeth Nanette Stivers.... Deaths: Myrtle Whitehouse Holmes, 92; Lelia May Dawson, 81; George Thomas Lamar, 72; Elmo S. Tingle, 80.40 years ago, 1976Sam Medleywalked away with four of five first place wins in the Young Farmers' Tobacco Show at Shelby County High School.... The Sentinel-Newswas among only 334 newspapers in the nation to be designated a "National Blue Ribbon Newspaper, 1977…." Clarence Miller, a local farmer who served as assistant secretary of agriculture during the Eisenhower administration, was named Man of the Year in Kentucky Agriculture... "I caught everything," said Rodney Murphy. "It was my first boy, my first girl, my first set of twins and my first breech birth. I got it all with the first delivery." He delivered James Edward and Jennifer Diane, twins of Virginia Morgan in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.... Other births: Mary Margaret Robertson, Michael Allen Murphy, Robin Lloyd Blankenmyer.... Deaths: "I was standing in my kitchen. If I had been in bed, I would have been killed," said Mary Hawkins. Danny Hellard of Frankfort was traveling westbound on U.S. 60 East with Vicky Reed of Shelbyville, when the car reportedly left the road and smashed into the Hawkins' house, located adjacent to Nancy's Drive-In. Rex Lewis.She is survived by her children, Terry (Penny) Lewis, Judith Lewis Moeller, Kathy (Mark) Lewis Pierce and Carol (Mike) Lewis Frazee; sister, Louise (Ken) Freeman; six grandchildren, Lisa (Steve) Wilson, Jennifer (Blake) Douthitt, Lori (Eric) Gillins, Amy (Jason) Casey, Lt. Cmdr. Ryan Pierce, Matthew Pierce; eight great-grandchildren, Autumn, Colton, Cheyenne, Rachel, Haylee, Rylee, Natalie and Daisy.Calling hours will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, 481 W. Main St. Blake Douthitt to officiate a funeral service at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
