Her favorite trips were to Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. She had her most interesting meal in Africa where she ate Oryx, a type of antelope. Ruby also enjoyed traveling to Glencoe, Scotland where she met with relatives of her parents. Outside of travel, Ruby volunteered as an usher at The Reagle Theatre for 20 years. After retiring, Ruby also volunteered as part-time accountant for Halcyon Place—a residence for families of children undergoing treatment at Massachusetts General Hospital and served as proctor for student exams at Harvard College.Ruby participated in ball-room dance competitions for close to 40 years. Her favorite competition was La Classique du Quebec in Montreal. Because of her involvement and support, she was given a plaque to commemorate her.For 20 years she volunteered at the information center in Harvard Square, helping tourists and natives to find their destinations. She said the most frequent question came from Thai college students asking where to find a plaque commemorating the current King of Thailand, who was born at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, MA.
