Hudson – Ellen T. (Shanahan) Lee, 92, of Hudson and formerly of Bolton, died Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at The Reservoir Center in Marlborough. She was the wife for 40 years of the late David I. Lee, who died in 1986.She was born and raised in Marlborough, the daughter of the late William J. and Theresa (Marinelli) Shanahan, and was a 1942 graduate of St. Michael’s Catholic High School in Hudson.Ellen was a chef for Nashoba Regional High School for 38 years, retiring in 2000, and previously worked at LaPointe Machine Tool Co. in Hudson for several years.She enjoyed music, dancing, swimming, cooking, and was an avid reader. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed a special bond with her grandchildren.She leaves three daughters, Mary J. Nichols and her husband Jeffrey of Bolton, Virginia A. Lee of Hudson, and Christine R. Gasparoni and her husband Richard of Marlborough; a sister, Mary Orareo of Florida; a brother, John Shanahan of Charlton; four grandsons and five granddaughters; five great-grandsons and five great-granddaughters; and a daughter-in-l...

Former Manchester Mayor Emile Beaulieu is seen with his wife, Laurette, in 2012. (MARK BOLTON/UNION LEADER FILE)MANCHESTER — Emile Beaulieu — a small businessman who was elected mayor as a Democrat, ran for governor as a Republican, and stayed active in public life for decades — has died at the age of 85.When he challenged entrenched, four-term mayor Dick Stanton in 1981, Beaulieu had served as a state representative and welfare commissioner, and owned a flooring installation company.In his first term, Beaulieu worked closely with then city coordinator John Hoben to open the Center of New Hampshire, which includes a hotel, office building and convention space, said former mayor Sylvio Dupuis.It became a lynchpin for downtown development.“He was a very ordinary man who lived a life in the community where he wanted to make a difference,” Dupuis said Tuesday of Beaulieu, who died Dec. 30.Dupuis remembers joining the New Hampshire Air National Guard in 1957 and having Beaulieu, then a sergeant, assign Dupuis to KP (kitchen police) duty.
