Dorothy Maxine Ball, 97, of Clinton, formerly of Fairfield Bay, passed away June 10, 2017. She was born on June 25, 1919 in Nevada, Iowa to Howard and Emma Farni. Dorothy worked as a Financial Secretary before retirement and moving to Fairfield Bay. Left to cherish her memory are her sons Larry Ball, James Ball and Richard Ball as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her father Howard Farni, her mother Emma Farni, husband Stanley R. Ball; brother Elmer Farni, brother Marvin Farni and sister Marjorie Farni. The patriarch of three generations of pilots, Clyde instructed his wife, Sara, in 1966; his son, Scott, now a Boeing 747 captain for Delta Airlines on his 16th birthday; and his grandson, Nevada, currently a captain in the United States Army flying the Blackhawk helicopter on his 16th birthday, as well.Clyde Shelton’s legacy is firmly established in those lives he touched. He was a genuine aviation professional. He was a man whose integrity, character, food nature and sincere interest in his students defined him as a man of competent humility.For his extraordinary and endearing contributions to aviation, Mr. Shelton was elected into the Tennessee Aviation Hall of Fame in 2010 and the Alabama Aviation Hall of Fame in 2016.Clyde will be missed by all he touched during his long historical career, but most importantly by his wife, Sara; his sons, Steve and Scott (Gwen); grandchildren, Ashley Davis (Johnny), Chase (Ashley), Nevada, Whitney (Marcus), Richard (Chelsea) and Cooper.Additionally, he will be missed by his great-grandchildren, Emma Grace, Anna Elizabeth, Abby, Walker, Ryder, Gunner, Ronin, and especially by his sister, Jodeen Steelman, and his brother-in-law, Ron (Dianah) West.Mr. Shelton was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Hamilton and Louella Shelton, and his brother, Thomas Owen Shelton.Visitation with the family will be held Wednesday, June 14, at 1 p.m. until time of service at 4 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. John Hathcock officiating. There will also be a very special funeral send off at the Madison County Executive Airport in Meridianville, Ala. A reception will be held at 11 a.m., followed by services and a fly over honoring Mr. Shelton at 1 p.m.Higgins Funeral Home is serving the family.

Ting Chen Yuan Ray, 90, Nevada, passed away on Tuesday, April 25, at her home in Nevada. Ting Chen Yuan was born Feb. 12, 1927, in Guizhou, China.Ting Chen Yuan was raised by her mother, Zheng Shi, in China. She moved to Taiwan in 1949 with her husband Tai Tong Yuan and two sons. In Taiwan, another son and three daughters were born and lived on the island until 1982 when she moved to Los Angeles, Calif. In 1988 she came to Nevada and has continued to reside here. Leal PortisLeal Marilyn Portis, of Nevada City, California and previously of Sacramento, California, passed away on March 24, 2017. She was 83.Leal was born in San Francisco, California on May 15, 1933. She attended Piedmont High School and went on to Mills College, both in Oakland, California, graduating with a bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy. She initially worked as a social worker for Butte County, where she met her future husband, Lloyd. They married and moved to Sacramento, where they lived for a number of years, and she became a stay at home mom, raising two daughters and teaching piano. She later renewed her OT license and went to work for UC Davis Medical Center Psychiatric Unit, and worked there until she retired in 1980. Over the years, she volunteered her service for multiple organizations, including but not limited to Grandmothers for Peace, Lions Club International, Hospitality House, Interfaith Food Ministry, League of Women Voters, local PTAs, among others.
