City, Mo. passed away Sunday, February 5, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family.Margaret was born on September 17, 1923 in Jefferson City, Mo. a daughter of Thomas Edward “Ed” and Lillie H. (Pennington) Thornberry. She was married on June 1, 1940 in Jefferson City, Mo. to George J. Klug, who preceded her in death in October 28, 1987.Margaret moved to Battle Creek, Michigan during World War II to be a factory worker and help care for her husband who was wounded during the war. He later received the Silver Star for his valor and Margaret was by his side helping care for him until they moved back to Jefferson City.A homemaker while her children were younger, Margaret received her Licensed Practical Nursing degree from Lincoln University in 1962, which was Lincoln’s first class with that degree. She became a nurse with Charles E. Still Hospital, Memorial Community Hospital, and later retired from Renz Women’s Penitentiary in 1988. Throughout her career as a nurse, she had lasting relationships with her co-workers and her sense of humor would always lighten the mood.Margaret was a charter member of Memorial Baptist Church and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
