Kingstown died peacefully in the company of angels Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Scalabrini Villa. He was the husband of 52 years to the late Muriel A. (Sprague) Sampson. Born in Leicester (part of Asheville), North Carolina, he was a son of the late Thomas D. Sampson and Emma (Shook) Sampson.He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps stationed at Quonset Point during World War II. Thereafter, he called Rhode Island home. Mr. Sampson started his 30-year career with the state of Rhode Island at the Lafayette Fish Hatchery, on to the Arcadia Management Area, then as foreman of the Division of Environmental Management Natural Resources Fish & Wildlife at the Great Swamp Management Area.Vern was a member of Slocum Grange, enjoyed many bowling leagues and was an avid outdoorsman. He was a natural with animals and was surrounded among pets his entire life. He was once known as the “Mayor of Wickford” as he frequented many coffee shops around town and will always be remembered for his smile.He leaves his loving children, David M. Sampson; James V. CLYDE — Benny Young, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016, at CarePartners Solace Center in Asheville.A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of Lyda Columbus and Mamie Elizabeth Smith Young. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.Benny’s early life began in the Thickety community of Haywood County. After graduating from Canton High School in 1951, Benny enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served his country proudly for 24 years, having served during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era.
