BOWLING GREEN, OHIO — Donald G. Downie, 59, of Bowling Green, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2017, after a battle with Huntington’s Disease.Don was born Nov. 2, 1957, in Ashtabula, Ohio, to the late Joseph and Carolyn (Swanson) Downie. He married Paula Roth on Aug. 25, 1979, at BGSU’s Prout Chapel, and she survives in Bowling Green.Also surviving are his children, Cassandra (Adam) Saunders of Franklin, Ohio, and Thomas (Katie) Downie of Bowling Green; sisters, Rebecca Bartel of Mayfield Heights, Ohio, Susan Carr of Panesville, Ohio, Diane Olekshuk of Conneaut, Ohio; brothers, Joseph Downie II of Mentor on the Lake, Ohio, and David (Jodee) Downie of Geneva, Ohio; grandchildren, Amelia and Oliver Saunders and Calvin Downie.He was preceded in death by his three sisters, Sally Condra, Barbara and Katrina Downie.Don graduated from Ashtabula High School in ’76 and BGSU with a degree in information technology. He worked several years at BGSU, Intelidata, Mazada, and retired from Medical Mutual (Toledo & Cleveland). Don was an avid runner and enjoyed fishing and gardening. Richard Hornyak and his companion, Pam DeFoe, Melbourne, Florida; three grandchildren, Tiffany Hoffman and her fiancé, Ryan Peterson, Guys Mills, Jessie Hoffman and his wife, Samantha, Ashtabula, Ohio and Dakota Hofius, Franklin, Pennsylvania; five great-grandchildren, Jessie, Jr., Abbey, Ayden, Lexie and Brantley and many nieces and nephews. Jean was the last surviving aunt in the Sabo family. Besides her husband, Jean was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Pearl Nitch; two brothers, William “Bill” Sabo and John Sabo, who died in infancy and a son-in-law, Michael Pagliaroli. Calling hours will be from 12:00 Noon until the time of service on Monday, February 27, 2017, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon. Whiteman Jr., Samuel Dickey "Sam" Age 88 Died peacefully on November 21, 2016 at his home in Naples, FL. Sam was born to Samuel Dickey Whiteman and Margaret Rambo Wallace Whiteman in Ashtabula, OH on December 19, 1927 and grew up in SD and NE. After graduating from Kemper Military School, Sam enlisted in the Navy and served aboard the USS Samuel N. Moore. Sam attended Hastings College, Tulsa Univ. and graduated from the Univ. of NE. After working for Gulf Oil and Ginther Oil, Sam joined Kansas-Nebraska Natural Gas Co. in 1962. After 31 years, he retired as senior vice-president of distribution from KN Energy. Active in the energy industry, the YMCA and Episcopal Church, Sam served as: Chair, Midwest Gas Assoc.; President, Blue Flame Gas Assoc.; Board of Directors, Great River Natural Gas Company; President, Hastings (NE) Economic Development Corporation; President, Lochland Country Club, Hastings; President, YMCA, Scottsbluff; Board of Directors, YMCA, Hastings; Senior Cathedral Warden, St. Mark's Episcopal Pro-Cathedral, Hastings; President, St. Mark's Foundation, Hastings.
