Hinton.She graduated from Pana High School and received her bachelor’s degree in women’s physical education from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.During her lifetime, Cynthia taught at the Chillicothe High School in Chillicothe, Illinois; Keller Grade School in Peoria Heights, Illinois; and the Gorham Schools in Gorham, Illinois. She worked several years helping her husband, Gene, at Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro, and was the retired owner/operator of Kenlake Marina and Cindy’s on the Barge restaurant located at Kenlake State Resort Park in Aurora. She was a member of St. Matthew by the Lake Lutheran Church in Benton.She married Herbert E. “Gene” Pettett on Nov. 22, 1964, in Pana, Illinois. Born to this union were two daughters,  Monique N. Pettett of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Jeannene P. (Kristian) Hall of Stafford; and one granddaughter,  Emma W. Hall of Stafford. Also surviving are two brothers, Eugene W. Hinton of Hardin and George W. Hinton of Springfield, Illinois.The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 7, 2016, at Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro, with Melissa Waterman officiating. He proudly served his country aboard the U.S.S. General SD Sturgis AP137 during WWII in the Pacific Conflict going almost completely around the world to keep America safe. He was present on VJ Day on Sept. 2, 1945, in Tokyo Bay at the signing of the peace treaty. Whaley, 91, of Circleville, passed from this life on Thursday afternoon, Jan. 5, 2017, in the Pickaway Manor, Circleville, following an extended illness.She was born Aug. 21, 1925, in Chillicothe, the daughter of William G. and Emma M. (Koebel) Neal.On Sept. 4, 1947, she married Lewis Edward "Ed" Whaley, who preceded her in death on Sept. 29, 1997.She is survived by her daughters, Joyce (John) DeLong of Kingston, Michele (Steve) Ash of Canal Winchester and Lori (Gary) Kettenburg of Riverview, Florida; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her sister, Marjorie Bunch of Venice, Florida; her sister-in-law, Mary Neal of Chillicothe; and many friends.Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Cheryl; her brother, Donald Neal; her brother and sister-in-law, William and Ruth Neal; and her brother-in-law, Booker Bunch.Mary had worked as an office administrator.
