He enjoyed bowling, playing cards and was a “professional” at checkers, beating anyone who dared to challenge him to a game. Survivors include: his wife of 43 years, Marilyn Whitener; his sister, Donna (Bernard) Groner of Jefferson City, Mo.; his mother, Martha Campbell of Jefferson City, Mo.; and ten nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his son, David V. Whitener, in 2015.Visitation will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Taos, Mo. from 10:00 until 11:00 am Monday June 26, 2017.Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 am Monday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with the Reverend John W. Groner officiating. Graveside services will follow at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
