Oscar E. Cardin Jr. - Sequoyah County Times

Oscar E. Cardin Sr. and Lillie (Smith) Cardin. He was the oldest of eight children.Oscar was a member of Meadowood Baptist Church in Midwest City. He married Wanda Jean Howe on Feb. 18, 1961, in Stilwell. In 1961, Oscar joined the U.S. Army, making this his career until retirement. During this time, he received numerous medals and awards. After combining his career in the U.S. Army and civil service, Oscar retired in 1998. Water skiing was one of his passions. He was an excellent skier and even looked like a pro when using his slalom and trick skis. He went on to teach his children and their friends how to ski. Oscar’s motto was “If you ain’t pulling a skier, you’re wasting gas!” He also loved to tinker with old cars whether it was buying, restoring, or reselling them.Animals were also another love of Oscar’s. At one time, he had five acres full of pets including horses, a donkey, goats, sheep, a llama, chickens, ducks, cats, kittens and dogs.Oscar is preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Jimmy Cardin, Coy Cardin and Kenneth Cardin.Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Wanda Howe Cardin of the home; children, Valerie Campbell and husband, Allen of Norman and Craig Cardin of Midwest City; grandson, Ty Cardin Campbell of Norman; brothers, Max Quinton, Mike Quinton and Dennis Quinton; sister, Charmaine Quinton-Hofferber; and Daddy’s caregiver and friend to our family, Darius “Dee” Ellis, who shared much love, dedication and yes, mischief with his “Papa.”A viewing is from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017.A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017, at Bill Eisenhour Northeast Chapel with interme...
