Immaculate Conception Parish Center to be dedicated - Statesman Journal

Monday, January 16, 2017

The convent that was previously on that site was demolished in April, 2016. It was built in 1937, and had 14 dormitory style bedrooms which originally housed Sisters of St. Mary's of Beaverton. By the year 2000, as religious personnel aged and were replaced by lay teachers in the Stayton area, the convent's living quarters were vacated, and the building served as Parish offices.During a groundbreaking ceremony on March 29, 2016, several Sisters of St. Mary's of Beaverton and one from the Benedictine Sisters of Mt. Angel returned, reminiscing with local families, some carrying home a special memento or keepsake from their convent days. The first church at Immaculate Conception was built in 1904, and the current church building was dedicated in 1952 and has undergone a number of upgrades.Contact Immaculate Conception at 503-769-2656 or immacstayton.org.Read or Share this story: http://stjr.nl/2iu6DuP...
