Auburn family suffers second tragic death - Auburn Journal

A Georgetown Medical School graduate, Dann practiced preventive medicine in Roseville.A third occupant of the boat – William Fredrick Lamica of Reedsport, Ore – also was killed in the accident, the Sheriff’s Office said. The three were the lone people onboard.According to the Dann family, Rick Dann was doing what he loved – fishing – when the accident resulted in his death and the deaths of two of his friends.The South Jetty is on the Bandon Bar in the city of Bandon, at the mouth of the Coquille River.Deputies initially responded with Bandon Police Department officers and the U.S. Coast Guard early Saturday to a report of a sighting of a possible body in the Coquille River, the Sheriff’s Office reported.The Bandon News reported that the open, recreational crab boat was seen by witnesses attempting to cross the bar Saturday morning in heavy seas and then disappeared.A Coast Guard helicopter crew was able to recover two bodies found in the water and the third was found on the rocky shoreline, The News stated.Dann was remembered by family as adventuresome in the outdoors, with a love of hiking, camping, biking, swimming, snorkeling, kayaking and skiing as well as fishing. He also appreciated music and built up an extensive collection of vinyl and CD albums. And in the evenings, he enjoyed curling up with his dog Buddy in his lap, reading the most recent science magazines.Survivors include his wife, Jeanne, and daughter, Michelle. A son, Christopher, also died in an accident. The younger Dann, 21 at the time, was killed along with driver of the other car in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 80 in late 2009.
