Sizemore.He died Friday, according to his daughter, Jacqueline Sizemore Madden.Visitation service in honor of Sizemore will be today, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home in Simpsonville, Madden said.A graveside funeral service will begin at 10 a.m., June 8, at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Piedmont.ORAL HISTORY:Upstate vets share D-Day memoriesA native of Greenville and a longtime resident of the Nicholtown community, Sizemore had joined the Navy at the age of 19.He was a Stewart's Mate Second Class and served on vessels stationed in Bainbridge, Maryland and Norfolk, Virginia, according to Madden.Sizemore said he worked as a cook and served officers. Sizemore married Daisy Porter in 1945 in Norfolk, Virginia. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy on Feb. 3, 1946.He and his new bride returned to Greenville and became the parents of 10 children.Sizemore worked at car dealerships in Greenville (Collins Cadillac, Judson T. Minyard and Bradshaw Automotive) for a total of 57 years.He retired at the age of 77.Madden and another of Sizemore’s daughters, Phyllis Oliver, had praised their father’s work ethic following the pinning ceremony."He taught us to work for what you want. Sizemore.He died Friday, according to his daughter, Jacqueline Sizemore Madden.Visitation service in honor of Sizemore will be today, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home in Simpsonville, Madden said.A graveside funeral service will begin at 10 a.m., June 8, at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Piedmont.ORAL HISTORY:Upstate vets share D-Day memoriesA native of Greenville and a longtime resident of the Nicholtown community, Sizemore had joined the Navy at the age of 19.He was a Stewart's Mate Second Class and served on vessels stationed in Bainbridge, Maryland and Norfolk, Virginia, according to Madden.Sizemore said he worked as a cook and served officers. Sizemore married Daisy Porter in 1945 in Norfolk, Virginia. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy on Feb. 3, 1946.He and his new bride returned to Greenville and became the parents of 10 children.Sizemore worked at car dealerships in Greenville (Collins Cadillac, Judson T. Minyard and Bradshaw Automotive) for a total of 57 years.He retired at the age of 77.Madden and another of Sizemore’s daughters, Phyllis Oliver, had praised their father’s work ethic following the pinning ceremony."He taught us to work for what you want.
