Monday, May 01, 2017Sean Clayton Groves, 23, of Chesapeake Beach, MD passed away April 26, 2017. He was born May 23, 1993 in Clinton, MD to Vickie L. McCan and Ernest C. Groves. Sean was raised in Calvert County and graduated from Huntingtown High in 2012. He was employed as a pipefitter with local Union #669.Sean was a compassionate person who loved everyone and all animals. He was always smiling and would make bad time better for family and friends. He enjoyed playing and watching all sports especially football.Surviving are his parents Vickie L. McCan of Chesapeake Beach, MD and Ernest C. Groves of St. Leonard, MD; sister Jacquelene E.A. Groves of Chesapeake Beach, MD; brothers Michael R. McCan and Jerett L. Groves of Chesapeake Beach, MD and Ernest F. Steve leaves behind son Jim and wife Rebecca (nee Groves) of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; grandson Nicholas of Washington, DC; granddaughter Laura of Washington, DC; granddaughter Katherine of New Orleans, LA; sister-in-law Sonja of Clearwater, FL; sister-in-law Nicolletta Cutsumpas (Lloyd) of Danbury, CT; nephews Demetrios (Zoe) Stefanadis, John (Karen) Cutsumpas , Ted (Alicia) Cutsumpas, John Tsigounis, Nicholas (Janice) Tsigounis, and Stevie Tsigounis; nieces Annette (James) Mavres, and Arleen (Tony) Castelli; many other grandnieces and grandnephews; and dear friends.The service will be held this Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 3:30 pm at the Huntt Funeral Home on 3035 Old Washington Road in Waldorf, Maryland 20601. Father Joseph Edgington will be officiating. Interment will be at Maryland Veterans Cemetery Cheltenham at a later date. Groves and her husband, Daryl, of Bladenboro, NC; Christine Brewer and her husband, Chip, of Lansdale; eleven grandchildren, Derrick, Daniel, Jennifer and Adam Groves; Holly Wise; Kelly Moore; Jonathan, Nathan, and Benjamin Wise; and William and Katherine Brewer; five great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Vanessa, Carrie, Conner, and Grayson; and a great-great-grandson, Henry. He is also survived by three brothers, Frank Wise, of Wilmington, DE; Samuel James Wise and his wife, Marie, of Hanover; Timothy Wise and his wife, Anita, of Lebanon; a sister-in-law, Marlene "Molly" Laverick, of Doylestown; and a brother-in-law, Robert Weidemoyer, of Sellersville.In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, David Wise, and his siblings, John Edwin Wise, Grace Huff, Dorothy Fitser, Elnora Klebe, and Barbara Detwiler.A visitation will be held from 7-8:30 p.m., Friday, January 13, in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 14, in St. Agnes Catholic Church, 445 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960, with a brief visitation at church from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to Mass. Lockwood Ave. in Webster Groves, has closed its doors permanently. The funeral home has operated since the 1930s, and has been owned, and later managed, by Don Gerber since 1961.The decision to close Gerber Chapel came after Dignity Memorial, a national network of more than 1,800 funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers, opted not to renew its lease with Don Gerber.Gerber owns the building, and has served in management capacity since Dignity Memorial acquired the business in 2010.Mark Valenta, general manager for Dignity Memorial funeral homes in the St. Louis area, said Gerber's closing reflects "the nature of the business." He said Gerber represents one of the area's last funeral parlors to remain located in what was once a home.Gerber Chapel was also one of the oldest businesses to operate in Webster Groves. A teary-eyed Don Gerber, 87, said the time had come to face the music and step aside."What a pleasure it was to serve this community for all of these years," said Gerber, seated in his funeral parlor surrounded by family.
