Homicide suspected in Columbia man's death - Columbia Missourian

COLUMBIA — The death of a Columbia man is being investigated as a homicide by the Mid-Missouri Major Case Squad.Two Callaway County sheriff's deputies found Steven Mullens, 34, dead in a four-door sedan on County Road 268 north of Interstate 70 in rural Callaway County late Monday night. The deputies were responding to an area resident's report of a suspicious vehicle. An autopsy was performed Tuesday; results were pending, according to a news release from the major case squad.Maj. Matt Oller of the Audrain County Sheriff's Office is the spokesman for the major case squad. He said he could not disclose the owner of the car in which Mullens was found, what part of the car Mullens' body was in or whether Mullens had suffered obvious injuries.The Mid-Missouri Major Case Squad includes 27 officers from the Boone, Callaway and Audrain county sheriff's departments, as well as the Columbia, Boonville, Centralia, Holts Summit and Fulton police departments, as well as the Missouri Highway Patrol.Mullens' death prompted a series of Facebook posts from friends and acquaintances expressing grief and condolences Tuesday.Mullens' own Facebook page listed his o...
