PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - A local funeral home kicked off the holiday weekend with its annual Memorial Day ceremony. Sunset Funeral Home and Sunset Memory Gardens honored fallen veterans in its annual Memorial Day ceremony Saturday morning. The event featured a presentation of colors, 21-gun salute, roll call of the fallen, and cannon firing.Attendees also placed roses on the graves of their loved ones. Tracy Boorom, the funeral home's managing director, says the ceremony has been held since 1957. "Every year we do this program, to honor everybody that we have lost this year that we have either taken care of at the cemetery or the funeral home," she said.There were appearances from veterans of the American Legion Post 15 in Parkersburg and the Marine Corp League.

He also was a member of the Bridgeport Lions Club, a member of the American Legion Post 31 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 573.He loved his family and was always there with the tools when something needed to be repaired or fixed. He and his son were always doing projects of improvement together. PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — A Mansfield man died in a West Virginia hospital early Saturday after he apparently tried to help passengers in a crashed Ford Ranger and then was struck by another vehicle.According to Sergeant B.A. Pickens, of the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, the incident was reported at 1:34 a.m. on Saturday. Scott Banks, 52, was pronounced dead nearly two hours later at Marietta Memorial Hospital by the ER doctor.Pickens said the Ford Ranger, which contained two passengers, lost control on a bridge that had recently iced over.“He (Banks) went out to see if they needed any help,” Pickens said.Shortly after, a Dodge Durango holding seven passengers lost control and became airborne, ultimately slamming into the Ford Ranger and Banks.
