UPDATED WITH OBITUARY, FUNERAL SERVICE: Suspect in murders of Goshen's Michael Sharp, two others arrested - Goshen News

Monday, May 01, 2017

It was the first recorded disappearance of international workers in the once-calm Kasai provinces, where at least 400 civilians have been killed since August amid a rebellion loyal to former traditional leader Kamwina Nsapu. The United Nations has said 23 mass graves have been found in the region, and at least 434,000 people have been displaced.“Anyone who has information in connection with the serious acts committed in the greater Kasai is asked to come forward with it,” said Ponde, adding that everything is being done to protect those who might be in danger. The prosecutor of the International Criminal court has said the killing of the U.N. investigators and other violence in Congo could be crimes under her court’s jurisdiction.Memorial serviceA memorial service for Sharp is scheduled Saturday at 4 p.m. Central Time at Hesston Mennonite Church in Hesston, Kansas. The service will be livestreamed through a link at hesstonmc.org. Goshen-area residents can watch the livestream at Waterford Mennonite Church, 65975 Ind. 15, Goshen, at 5 p.m. There will be a time of sharing memories and a light supper afterward.A slide show about Sharp’s life will begin at 3:30 p.m. Central Time or 4:30 p.m. locally.Sharp’s parents, Michele and John, traveled to Dover, Delaware Tuesday to receive his body. His father John wrote on his Facebook page Wednesday about the experience.‘“Dust to dust, ashes to ashes’ is a poetic expression I have often used at the time of a burial,” John Sharp wrote. “Now it is an apt description for what is happening to MJ’s body. Because the ‘dust-to-dust’ process was so far along, we did not have the option of viewing what was left of his body yesterday. So, in a Dover, Delaware, funeral home we sat by a borrowed coffin containing MJ’s remains. Here Michele had a healing mental conversation with MJ. Perhaps the bright sunshine softened our grief. But nothing tempered the autopsy report of MJ’s violent death. My anger compounded my grief, and so I carry this in my wounded spirit.“Because the exact date of death cannot be determined, we are choosing March 15. The ides of March seems a fitting context.”The memorial service, 4:00 PM,...
