Even with the physical struggles of the last years he continued to take great joy in near weekly trips to Marquette, Black River Falls, or other casinos, as well as weekly bingo nights at the La Crescent Legion. His joie-de-vivre was apparent even after the recent fall when he was still planning how to get to bingo.Ralph is survived by his two daughters, Kathleen Boardman of La Crescent, Gail (Ried) Boom of Manchester, Iowa; five grandchildren, Rob (Lisa) La Crosse, Rian (Jeanette) of Eureka, Calif., Alex (Mackenzie) of Des Moines, Iowa, Hannah of New Zeland, Ian of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.In addition to his wife, Lobie, he was preceded in death by one son. In the wintertime, Dutch would have that gas space heater going that would warm one to the bones. There is even a road off of the Heath to River Falls Road named after the couple, Dutch and Nell Road.Remember when – the best barbecue in town could be found at Harris’ BBQ on Hwy. 29 North. There used to be a rental go-cart track adjacent to the Harris business. My friend, Marge Russell, and I would worry Eric Russell, her father, to death until he finally took us to zoom around that track several times. She was born May 2, 1935 in Mauston, WI, to Clarence and Maxine (Crouch) Markgraf. Clarice was a graduate of Elroy High School in Elroy, WI. She was united in marriage to Rodney Zirk, and together they lived in southern Wisconsin, around Janesville. They were later divorced. Clarice later was united in marriage to Arthur “Bud” Phillips on January 21, 1989 in Sparta, WI. While living in Black River Falls, she worked as a volunteer for the Jackson County Historical Society, in the History Room. Clarice had a great passion for History and Genealogy, she also enjoyed going to garage sales and going out to eat. He attended Polk County Teachers College and met the love of his life, Karen Lindberg. They were married in 1962 at Zion Lutheran Church of Trade Lake.  Clayton started teaching in the Black River Falls School District in the fall of 1962. He earned a bachelor’s degree in education from University of Wisconsin - La Crosse, a master of science degree in teaching from UW - Eau Claire and his administration specialist degree from UW - Superior.After teaching two years in the Black River Falls School District, Karen and Clayton were hired to teach in the Grantsburg School system. Clayton was an elementary schoolteacher and became the elementary school principal. He served the Grantsburg School District for over 36 years. He retired in 2000 to become a stay-at-home grandpa.Clayton was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church of Trade Lake, Wis. Over the years he was involved in many community and statewide activities, and was very supportive of youth and their activities.  Clayton was a Boy Scout leader, 4-H leader, Sunday school teacher and worked with the Grantsburg High School football team for many years. When he retired, he received the Going the Extra Mile for Kids Award from the Grantsburg School District.Clayton was a civic-minded person and served on the Grantsburg Village Board, the Burnett County Board and many local and statewide committees. In 2004, Clayton received the Distinguished Service Award from the Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association. He was very involved in many local history events and tractor events. The biggest joy of his life was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Karen, who was always by his side and helped him in every way. George was born November 8, 1944, to Vernon and Veda Wald in Black River Falls. He attended Beloit Memorial School. George was united in marriage to Dianna Greenwood, she passed away in 1972. He was later united in marriage to LuAnne Holmes, who passed away in 2010. George proudly served his country in the United States Marines as a Sergeant including three tours in Vietnam. After his retirement from the Marines his employment included the Janesville Sheriff’s Department, Beloit Corporation and the Stop N Go. Jorde, who also excelled as a high school hockey coach in the Twin Cities, died Thursday. The Woodbury resident was 80 years old, and a cause of death has yet to be disclosed.A native of Thief River Falls, where he played for the Prowlers and led them to the state title in 1954, Jorde joined the University of Minnesota squad in 1955 for his first of three seasons as a winger. As a Gopher, he counted hockey legend Herb Brooks among his teammates and John Mariucci as his coach.Then came a year playing for the U.S. national team before bouncing around various junior and minor league teams — mostly in Minnesota — until his final season in 1969-70 as a member of the Rochester (Minn.) Mustangs.Jorde also was a longtime teacher starting and coach in the east metro at Park High School, serving as the head hockey coach for 15 years. In that time, he compiled a record 277 wins, 109 losses and 13 ties while leading his team to five conference championships. He also coached golf and baseball at Park.Jorde had a long senior hockey career as a player-coach for the St. Paul Parkers.
