During World War II he worked as a shipfitter’s helper at Pearl Harbor.From 1949 until his retirement in 1982, he was employed in the Engineering Department of the Bessemer & Lake Erie Railroad. Bruce was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Greenville, where he had served on church council, served as the chairman of the Property Committee and as the Superintendent of Sunday School. In addition, he had also for some time been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Meadville and had served on the Board of Directors at Bethesda Children’s Home, where he had volunteered over 2000 hours with the construction of the Home’s Chapel. Bruce was a 54 year member of the Hempfield Township Municipal Authority, served on the Board of Directors of the Greenville Public Library, had been a Boy Scout Leader with Troop #54 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and he very much enjoyed woodworking. On September 29, 1945 he married the former, Margaret E. Floyd, she passed away on July 13, 1995, he then married the former, Frances L. Callahan on September 20, 1996, she survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Ann Mathieson and her husband, Scott of Aurora, New York and Janet Michaelsen and her husband, Christian of Annandale, Virginia; two sons, Paul B. Wackenhut and his wife, Martha, of Blackfoot, Idaho and Norman C. Wackenhut and his wife, Socorro of South Lake Tahoe, California; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Monday, August 29, 2016A 29-year-old Jefferson County woman sought in her mother's stabbing death was captured this morning.The U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force and Bessemer police arrested Ashia Christine Huddleston, who also goes by the name Ashia Fletcher, just before 11 a.m. She was formally charged with murder this morning in the slaying of 49-year-old Tammy Huddleston. Her bond is set at $250,000."On behalf of the family and the police department, we would like to thank everyone for their assistance,'' said Bessemer police Sgt. Cortice Miles.As police continue their investigation, friends are rallying around the Concord family. "She was a great mother that went far and beyond to help her kids,'' said friend Kimberly Clayton. "She not only raised her daughter and her son, but she was raising her daughter's two daughters. She ate, slept and lived for those grandkids."The slaying happened Saturday in the Bessemer Walmart parking lot. Monday, July 25, 2016Ed married Violette “Vi” Swatik on Jan. 31, 1948, in Mount Vernon. Together they raised four children. They moved to Grove City, Pa., in 1968 when Ed was transferred from the Cooper-Bessemer Corporation in Mount Vernon to the plant in Grove City. He retired as a tool designer from Cooper Energy Services in January of 1985 after working for the company for 44 years.Mr. Fisher was an active member of the community having served on Grove City Borough Council, Cooper Bessemer Credit Union Board, and was a faithful member of East Main Presbyterian Church for over 40 years. Ed enjoyed trailer camping with his family and after retirement he and Vi traveled extensively including all 50 states of the U.S.Ed had a deep sense of respect for family and for his personal history. He took his grown children to the remote sites in Ohio where his ancestors had settled and always made a point to keep in touch and visit his relatives.John Edward Fisher is survived by his wife, Violette of 68 years, Grove City; and their four children, Michael Fisher and wife, Vickie, of Apex, N.C., Karen DeWalt and husband, Mark, of Grove City, Pa., Patricia Raymer of Long Beach, Calif., Linda Zambelli and husband, Bill, of Glenwood Springs, Colo.
