DOTHAN, Al. (WTVY) - A fundraiser has been started to help pay for Kendarrius Matin's funeral expenses. More than 20 of Martin's friends, family and classmates have left donations on a ‘GoFundMe’ account started just a day ago. The goal is to raise $4,000. So far, more than $1,500 has been donated. On May 30th at 5:00 p.m, there will be a viewing at Scott’s Chapel Hill Mortuary on Headland Avenue in Dothan.A celebration of life will be Wednesday, May 31st at Greater Beulah Missionary Baptist Church in Dothan at 2:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2017 at New Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in the Benevenum community, conducted by Reverend Willie Bell Thomas, pastor.Mrs. Foster was born on January 7, 1933 in Georgetown, SC, to Mr. Willie Tucker and Mrs. Hattie Gilliard Tucker, the oldest of eleven children. She was educated in the public schools of Georgetown County. Mrs. Foster later resided in Brooklyn, New York, where she was employed for many years with Victoria Packing Company. Following retirement, in 2004 she returned to Georgetown and reestablished her membership at New Mt. Vicki's first son was born in 1974 at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, California. Vicki and Lex returned to Florida in 1979, adopted a second son, and settled into family life in Dothan, Alabama in 1987. Vicki was a teacher's teacher. She taught history, economics, social studies and other subjects at Northview High School from 1987 until 2003. Vicki was respected, loved and taken seriously by her students. The Alabama Council on Economic Education recognized Vicki's many talents by naming her Alabama's Economics Teacher of the Year in 1991. Following a bought with cancer, Vicki took a medical retirement in 2003, but she remained very active for the next thirteen years. Vicki became a certified Master Gardener, and she sat on the CSO for Camp Helen State Park. Vicki volunteered with Covenant Hospice and the Panama City Beach Public Library with such frequency and fervor that she twice received the Presidential Certification for Volunteerism from George W. Bush. Vicki adored her two sons, daughter-in-law and three grandsons. Vicki is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Roy Thaggard Boyd, Jr. and her grandson Charles Frederick ("Charlie") Wahl. She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Harry Alexander ("Lex") Wahl, sons Brian Alexander Wahl (Katie) and Michael Lawrence Wahl, sister Mina Boyd Bloodworth (Jeff), grandsons Alexander Ladd and William Bibb Wahl, Aunt Hunk Wynns, as well as many other cousins, family members and friends. Our program grew tremendously because of Robert Crowder’s vision,” Murphy said.Under his watch the program evolved and moved from downtown Dothan to a new facility on Brannon Stand Road.Murphy said Crowder was a strong advocate for seniors in the seven counties SARCOA serves and changed the direction of aging programs in Alabama.He made contributions to programs across the state and nation through various boards on which he served, including the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging and the Southeastern Association of Area Agencies on Aging.Crowder believed that it was important to understand the aging environment at the regional and national level in order to advance SARCOA’s mission.Culver said Crowder helped start the senior center in Taylor when he was mayor and was active in working with and helping seniors when he became commission chairman and later the head of SARCOA.“It wasn’t just a job to him,” Culver said. “He did it because he loved them and he had a great reputation around the state for being a leader for senior rights.”Murphy said Crowder was diagnosed with cancer in 2015 and retired from SARCOA on Aug. 31, 2016.Crowder’s father served in the military and he moved around the country with his family while growing up. Our program grew tremendously because of Robert Crowder’s vision,” Murphy said.Under his watch the program evolved and moved from downtown Dothan to a new facility on Brannon Stand Road.Murphy said Crowder was a strong advocate for seniors in the seven counties SARCOA serves and changed the direction of aging programs in Alabama.He made contributions to programs across the state and nation through various boards on which he served, including the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging and the Southeastern Association of Area Agencies on Aging.Crowder believed that it was important to understand the aging environment at the regional and national level in order to advance SARCOA’s mission.Culver said Crowder helped start the senior center in Taylor when he was mayor and was active in working with and helping seniors when he became commission chairman and later the head of SARCOA.“It wasn’t just a job to him,” Culver said. “He did it because he loved them and he had a great reputation around the state for being a leader for senior rights.”Murphy said Crowder was diagnosed with cancer in 2015 and retired from SARCOA on Aug. 31, 2016.Crowder’s father served in the military and he moved around the country with his family while growing up.
