Monday, November 28, 2016John Maxwell "Max" Wood, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016 in Fairhope where he had resided for 25 years.Max was born to John Hackworth Wood and Olga Pope Wood in the small community of Dixon Mills in Marengo County.After serving four years in the United States Air Force as a flight engineer, Max returned home and enrolled at the University of West Alabama, receiving both his undergraduate and graduate degrees. Max completed his post graduate MAA studies at the University of Alabama.Max retired after serving 35 years as an educator, fulfilling the positions of teacher, principal and superintendent of education.Also active in civic affairs in Linden and Jackson, Max was president of the Linden County Club and Linden Rotary Club.While residing in Jackson, Max served on the Jackson Zoning Board and the Jackson Planning Commission; he was chairman of both.After retiring in 1991, Max and Susan moved to Fairhope where he enjoyed many years of golf.
