Monday, March 27, 2017KENAI, Alaska — Donald L. Dooney, 79, a resident of Kenai, Alaska, passed away Nov. 17, 2016, at Central Peninsula Hospital, Soldotna, Alaska. He battled bladder cancer for over three years.Donald was an only child born in Winona, Feb. 20, 1937, to Julia (Prondzinski) and Leo Dooney. Donald graduated from Cotter High School in Winona. After high school, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served proudly for four years. All who knew Don knew how proud he was to be a Marine. Don married Marian (Galewski) Dooney Nov. 29, 1958, in Winona. They were 12 days short of 58 years of marriage. When Don and Marian lived in Winona, he worked both at the Bloedow Bakery and Federal Bakery. When Federal Bakery closed, Don returned to school and obtained a degree in surveying. He then was hired as a city building inspector in Owatonna, Minn., where he worked until he retired in 1994. In 1995, Don and Marian moved to his favorite fishing spot in Alaska to catch salmon.
