Saturday, April 08, 2017Born leap year day in 1928, Rosana "Coty" Meloy, grew up in Wabash, Indiana, and graduated from the University of Arizona in 1950 with a degree in journalism. Upon graduation, Coty married fellow U of A graduate, William H. Wallace, and they moved to Washington, Pa., where Bill joined his family's lumber company business and their daughter, Holly, was born. In 1964, the family returned to Tucson, where Bill became Director of Student Housing at the U of A, and Coty was active for decades in many of Tucson's service and arts organizations, including the Assistance League, PEO, St. Philips Altar Guild, the Patio Garden Club, Skyline Women’s Club, Thespian Society, and was a member of both Skyline and Tucson Country Clubs. In 2000, following Bill's death, Coty married John C. Meloy, also widowed, and who had been her husband's best friend and the best man in her first marriage. Besides his wife, of Washington, survivors include his mother and stepfather, Molly Chilinski and Gary Chilinski of Eloy, Ariz.; two brothers, Terence Walsh of Frederick, Md., and Kenneth Walsh of New York City, both copy editors; and a sister, Jennifer Jaurigue of Chandler, Ariz.Mr. Walsh was a frequent presenter at conferences of the American Copy Editors Society, and in 2016 he was a keynote speaker at a gathering of the Editors Association of Canada. The New Yorker’s Norris, the other keynote presenter, recalled that Mr. Walsh “was addressing some nitpicking thing like whether or not to continue to capitalize ‘the Internet.’ The hard-liners still capitalize it (and make two words of ‘Web site,’ with the cap), although the future is clear. The kids will lower-case it, because [and this is pure Bill] what don’t they lower-case? He held out hope for them, though.
