Monday, February 27, 2017After graduation from high school, Phyllis attended Concord College, majoring in Home Economics Education. She graduated in January 1949 and started teaching Home Economics at Pocahontas High School. Phyllis met the love of her life, David S. Fox, in April 1948. David was serving as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Bluefield area. After his mission, David returned to West Virginia and attended Concord College. While in college, David and Phyllis dated and were married on April 15, 1949 in the home of Phyllis’s parents. Before David and Phyllis were married, they had received special permission to first get married and then a few months later be sealed in the temple. On June 27, 1949 David and Phyllis were sealed for all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. David and Phyllis have five children: Martha, Andy, Elizabeth, Becky, and Henry. David and Phyllis lived in Bluefield while Phyllis taught at Pocahontas High School and David finished school at Concord College. They say you can take the girl out of the south, but you can’t take the south out of the girl. This was especially true for Phyllis. Shortly after graduation, David and Phyllis packed up their two kids and all their belongings and moved to California. Several years and three more kids later, David and Phyllis packed again and moved their family to Arizona where they were living at the time of Phyllis’s death. Escort will meet at Donnewald Distributors in Greenville, IL, departing there at 3:00 p.m. They will follow Rt 40 through Greenville, Pocahontas, Highland, St Jacob and Troy. The public is welcome to ride with the escort. Each community is invited to place American Flags along the escort route.September 8th will be a work day to set-up the Wall and other displays. Volunteers are needed beginning at 7:00 a.m. and throughout the entire day.The Wall and other displays will be open to the public at 9:00 a.m. on September 9, with the opening ceremony at 7:00 p.m. Friday’s speaker will be Chief Master Sargent, Charles Kempker, Retired, who lost a brother in Vietnam. Scott AFB Brass Quintet will provide the entertainment.A brief Candlelight Ceremony will also take place at 9:00 p.m. on Friday.Saturday evening’s ceremony will be at 7:00 p.m. The speaker will be Joe Frank, decorated Vietnam Veteran, who sustained injuries resulting in paraplegia. Joe has dedicated his life to public service and advocating on behalf of people with disabilities and Veterans. Entertainment will be provided by Triad High School Choir and Band.The Closing Ceremony at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday will include speaker, Gary Sigler, decorated Vietnam Veteran and POW.
