West Chester Fire Department, where he served 19 years.Firefighters from Hamilton, Deefield Township, Mason and Middletown saluted as the procession passed by.The procession arrived at the Springdale Church of the Nazorean at 10 a.m. for Burns’ funeral service. Friends and fellow firefighters delivered heartfelt eulogies for their fallen comrade.West Chester Fire Chief Rick Prinz has known Burns for nearly 40 years and spoke about their life-long friendship. The two began in the fire service together. Prinz was the best man for Burns at his wedding.“Today, the West Chester Fire department has truly lost a hero,” Prinz said. “Sometimes, I think we learned more about firefighting and being a man and all about life from sitting on that wall outside the firehouse.”Burns devoted his life not only to fighting fires, but also his family and faith.“Now that you're in heaven, brother, I'll still have your back, and I know you'll still have mine,” Shannon Hayden, of Colerain Township Fire Department.Many say Burns had a way of spreading laughter, even as he entered hospice.“Even in these last few weeks and days, his fight to live his passion for others, his humorous jokes and comments all kept us laughing and wondering in amazement,” Prinz said.More than 16 Hamilton firefighters will fill in while the men and women who serve West Chester attend Burns’ funeral and mourn their co-worker and friend.Callihan said, “That’s just what firefighters do.”“It doesn’t matter what department you come from. Well-known philanthropist Amy Seamans Walker, "Pat" , 97, of Springdale, died Sept. 2 at her home.Her husband, Willard J Walker, died in 2003. The could was married for more than 60 years. Pat Walker is survived by two children, Johnny Mike Walker of Fayetteville and Patricia Walker of Dallas.They established the Willard and Pat Walker Charitable Foundation and generously gave to many local and national organizations. The Walker Foundation has contributed to medical centers, colleges, including the University of Arkansas, museums, churches and other organizations. After living in many cities in both Oklahoma and Arkansas, Pat and Willard eventually settled in Springdale to raise their family.Pat Walker was recently inducted into the 2016 Arkansas Women's Hall of Fame.Other awards include the 2015 Helen R Walton Distinguished Achievement Award from the Walton Arts Center, the 2013 Burlsworth Foundation legend recipient and the distinguished service award from the Razorback Foundation, among other honors. Memorial services will be Thursday, Sept.
