Monday, November 21, 2016University of Oregon distance runner had just spent the weekend with her mother, Teresa, and was bound for the EQT Pittsburgh 10 miler road race two days later.Teresa went back to the family home in Arroyo Grande, California. She was found there unresponsive and pronounced dead at 56. A cause of death has not been determined.A race official met Hasay's plane and ushered her to a private space, where she took the call from Alberto Salazar, her coach with the Nike Oregon Project."She was my biggest inspiration," she said. "At times she probably was the only one I ran for. She understood the ups and downs. She understood everything about it."Teresa Hasay always was fit. She ran regularly, as many as six miles. She swam and hiked.She passed her love of running to her daughter, who would accompany her mom as a little girl in a loop around the neighborhood.The news of her death was, initially, devastating."The hardest call I've ever made," Salazar said.In the weeks since, Jordan said, she has been strengthened by the outpouring of support she and her family have received."People have been so incredible, I can't put it in words," she said.
