Monday, January 09, 2017Monday for late county Supervisor John J. Benoit, who battled pancreatic cancer and died in late December at 64.Benoit, who represented the Fourth District -- an area that extends from the Coachella Valley to the Arizona state line, "passed away peacefully" at his home in Bermuda Dunes Dec. 26, according to a statement issued by his office.Monday's public viewing will precede funeral services to be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in La Quinta.Seating was expected to be limited at Tuesday's service, but the funeral will be broadcast live online at www.rivcocob.org/bos-video . A live feed will also be shown at Southwest Church in Indian Wells, about two miles north of St. Francis.Should St. Francis fill to capacity, those interested in viewing the service may watch the live feed at Southwest Church. Buses provided by SunLine Transit Agency and Cardiff Limousine & Transportation will also be available going to and from St. Francis.Benoit announced on Nov. 18 that he would be scaling back his workload after a CT scan uncovered a growth on his pancreas and spots on his liver and lungs. Monday, September 19, 2016Fox and Fiddle will open at the River in Rancho Mirage late fall 2016.(Photo: Courtesy of Fox and Fiddle)Coachella Valley foodies can look forward to a new English style pub popping up in Rancho Mirage, which some Canadian snowbirds might recognize.The Fox and Fiddle, a signature Canadian establishment focused on mixing the social experience of a British style pub with upscale cuisine, will open its first California location at the River in Rancho Mirage.The restaurant, which will occupy the spot formerly used by Sam’s Sushi, will offer bar favorites such as fried pickles and fried calamari, as well as a full restaurant menu including signature Canadian dishes such as poutines.“The English pub is one of the oldest eating, dining and entertainment establishments in the Western hemisphere,” Fox and Fiddle California President and CEO Kurt Gardner said. “In England, pubs would be the heart of the community.
